ACTEC Files Amicus Brief with Supreme Court

An amicus brief in The North Carolina Department of Revenue v. The Kimberley Rice Kaestner 1992 Family Trust was filed on March 1, 2019, with the Supreme Court by ACTEC. This is an important case dealing with the ability of a state to tax the income of an irrevocable nongrantor trust.

ACTEC Elects 38 New Fellows to the College

The Board of Regents of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) met October 28 at the 2018 Fall Meeting in Washington, DC to review nominations for a new class of Fellows. We are proud to announce that 38 individuals have been peer-elected to the College. This group of new Fellows spans the US, including one academic Fellow and four Fiduciary Counsel, and also an International Fellow representing France.

ACTEC Offers Opinion in Sveen v. Melin

ACTEC and its Fellows researched and offered opinion to Supreme Court in Sveen v. Melin. The decision was 8-1 in favor of the position taken by ACTEC as amicus curiae with only Justice Gorsuch dissenting. ACTEC supported the position that revocation upon divorce statutes, applied retroactively to life insurance beneficiary designations, do not violate the Contracts Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel Elects 32 New Fellows to the College

The Board of Regents of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) met in March at the 2018 Annual Meeting in San Antonio to review nominations for a new class of Fellows. We are proud to announce that 32 individuals have been peer-elected. This group of new Fellows spans the US and also includes four International lawyers representing Canada, Austria, and Spain.

Charles D. “Skip” Fox, IV Elected 2018-2019 President of ACTEC

ACTEC announces Charles D. “Skip” Fox, IV is to serve as the 2018-2019 President. The Board of Regents of the College inaugurated the 2018-2019 officers during its Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX. Fox, a partner at McGuireWoods from Charlottesville, VA, succeeds ACTEC Fellow Susan T. House.

ACTEC Young Leaders Class of 2017 – 2019 Announcement: The ACTEC Young Leaders Program was designed to foster scholarship and education in trust and estate matters, promote diversity and inclusivity, and encourage the development of potential ACTEC Fellows. The current class includes: Nathan Brown, Audrey Kucia, Carly McKeeman, Arnette Steele, and John Strohmeyer.

Congratulations to the Florida Fellows Institute Class of 2017!

The Florida Fellows Institute graduated its second class on May 11, 2017. ACTEC President Susan House provided remarks during the event, recognizing the commitment of class members to achieving excellence in the profession. The Institute has 66 graduates after the first two years of the program.

ACTEC has elected Susan T. House of Pasadena, California, to serve as the 2017-2018 President. The Board of Regents of the College inaugurated the 2017-2018 officers and inducted 82 new Fellows during its recent Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona.
